Amritsar: Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi met former Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Thursday over the selection of ministers in the new cabinet. The meeting was held at Rahul Gandhi's residence in Delhi. The meeting lasted about 5 hours and ended late at 2 p.m. Punjab Congress in-charge Harish Rawat and party national general secretary KC Venugopal were present in the meeting.

Sources said close associates of former Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh are likely to be removed from the cabinet. Sources said five new faces are to be inducted into Channi's cabinet. Punjab Chief Minister Channi met Congress leaders Ambika Soni and KC Venugopal on September 20 along with state president Navjot Singh Sidhu. Even after the screw of the CM's name in the Punjab Congress was resolved, the internal politics of the party continues to be in turmoil.

With the formation of a new CM in Punjab, Captain Amarinder Singh's camp is now set to be completely removed from the government. Sidhu team is putting all his might into it. That is why, along with Charanjit Singh Channi, who arrived in Delhi for cabinet expansion, no leader of the captain's faction was seen on the plane. Both deputy CM and state Congress president Navjot Singh Sidhu were said to be present along with CM Channi on the charter aircraft.
