Chandigarh: Newly appointed Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi is scheduled to meet PM Narendra Modi on Friday. He is expected to seek withdrawal of a letter from the Centre asking it to postpone the procurement process of paddy in Punjab from October 1. Veteran Congress leader Channi will meet PM Modi for the first time after taking oath as CM of Punjab.

Sources said Channi is also likely to meet senior party leaders during his visit to the national capital amid the ongoing turmoil in the Punjab unit of the Congress. According to a senior Punjab government official, CM Channi is scheduled to meet PM Modi. Sources said that during his meeting with PM Modi, Channi is likely to demand early commencement of government procurement of paddy in the state.

Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi had on Thursday demanded the Centre withdraw the letter issued to suspend the procurement of paddy from October 1. State that government procurement of paddy normally begins on 1st October. He had sought personal intervention from PM Modi in the matter.
