Chandigarh: Thousands of farmers blocked the railway lines on Tuesday morning, accusing the Amarinder government of Punjab of reversing promises. Fearing dust in the eyes of the district administration, farmers sat on railway tracks in Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Gurdaspur, and Ferozepur. While the police have started a crackdown on the farmers, the farmers have announced to intensify their agitation.
Farmers' organizations of Punjab have been accusing the Amarinder government of ignoring demands for a long time. Farmers accuse that even today, thousands of farmers owe sugar to the mills. In the current season, sugar mill owners are neither buying sugarcane nor paying old dues. The farmers say that cases are being registered and arrested by the Punjab government against the farmers who burn the straw, but no help is being given to the farmers on the issue of straw.
According to the farmers, he had a meeting with CM Captain Amarinder Singh on this issue during the month of September. In this, he instructed the officers to resolve the problems of the farmers as soon as possible, but the farmers have started the agitation from today if no action is taken till date.
