Amritsar: The Kisan Union's Bharat Bandh against three new agricultural laws brought by the Modi government at the Centre affected normal life in many parts of the country. Thousands of people were stranded, especially in Haryana, Punjab and western Uttar Pradesh, due to the cancellation of trains and the closure of highways and major roads. Meanwhile, Punjab's new CM Charanjit Singh Channi has convened an emergency meeting of ministers today.

In the meeting, CM Channi has directed the ministers to meet the families of those who lost their lives during the farmer agitation and submit a letter of government appointment. CM Channi tweeted that an emergency meeting of the newly constituted Council of Ministers was convened in view of the United Kisan Morcha's called for 'Bharat Bandh.' The meeting passed a resolution to express solidarity with farmers. CM Channi said, 'Ministers have been directed to meet the families of those who lost their lives during the agitation by next week and issue them with government job appointment letters. 155 such appointment letters are ready and the Cabinet Secretary has been asked to ensure verification of other cases.'

Earlier, Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi wrote on Twitter, "I stand with the farmers and the Central Government requests to withdraw three anti-farmer laws. Our farmers have been fighting for their rights for more than a year and now the time has come when their voices should be heard. I urge all farmers to speak peacefully.''
