The Punjab government has decided to seek financial assistance of Rs 51,102 crore from the central government to take out the state from the financial crisis and growing economic difficulties due to epidemic corona and prolonged lockdown. The prepared demand letter related to this was approved in the meeting of Punjab Cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh. The authority to amend this demand letter has been given to the Chief Minister before it is handed over to the Central Government by the Cabinet.

For your information, let us tell you that along with direct financial assistance of 21,500 crores, the State Government has demanded to abolish the long-term CCL loan, which is necessary for the State Government to strengthen its financial aspect. Apart from this, according to the demand letter, 100% funds have been asked to be provided by the central government under all central schemes during the financial year 2020-21.

According to the spokesman of the Chief Minister's Office on this matter, after Kovid, the proposed demand of 6603 crore has been placed by the state keeping the health infrastructure in the list of prominence, so that the public health infrastructure can be improved for a long time. It also includes the approval for setting up a modern center of virology in the state at a cost of 650 crores, for which the required land has already been offered by the Punjab government to provide the required land. At the same time, an amount of Rs 5,068 crore has been sought for the management of liquid and solid litter in villages to prevent the spread of covid-19 in rural areas. Apart from this, there has also been a demand for increasing MNREGA targets and capital costs for employment in rural areas.
