MOSCOW: During a phone chat with British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed his views on the current situation in Ukraine.

The Kremlin said in a statement on Monday that Boris Johnson expressed alarm about the suspected large-scale movement of Russian troops along the Ukrainian border.

Putin gave Johnson concrete examples of how Kiev officials thwarted the implementation of the Minsk agreements, which he described as "an undisputed framework for settling Ukraine's internal problem." In Ukraine, the Russian President also mentioned "discrimination against the Russian-speaking people." He emphasised the importance of promptly starting talks on clear and globally legal agreements to stop the North Atlantic Treaty Organization from expanding eastward and from deploying armaments in Russia's neighbours, particularly Ukraine. Putin noted that the Russian side will offer draught documents on the subject.
