The honour adds to the PV Sindhu award list as she is nominated for the prestigious Padma Bhushan.

The Sports Ministry on Monday nominated the Indian badminton ace and Rio Olympics Silver Medallist PV Sindhu for the for the prestigious Padma Bhushan. She is now the second athlete after former Indian skipper MS Dhoni to be nominated for the award this year.

Sindhu was awarded fourth highest civilian honour, Padma Shri in March 2015 and was conferred the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award, the highest sporting honour in India in 2016.

The 22-year-old Hyderabadi shuttler won the Silver at the recently concluded World Championships in Glasgow and also became the first Indian to win the Korea Open Super Series after defeating Nozomi Okuhara.

In the Badminton World Federation women's singles rankings she is now in the second spot. Sindhu now has joined Saina Nehwal and national team coach Pullela Gopichand to become the third shuttler to be conferred the Padma Bhushan. 

Sindhu became the first Indian to grab the silver medal at the Olympic Games last year when she lost in the final against Carolina Marin of Spain at Rio de Janeiro.

On September 20 the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) nominated the former Indian captain MS Dhoni ( led India in World T20 and 2011 World Cup) for the prestigious Padma Bhushan.
