New Delhi: India's popular industrialist and former Bajaj Group president Rahul Bajaj will be cremated today. He passed away on Saturday afternoon. They were 83 years old. Rahul Bajaj was battling heart-related ailments with pneumonia. Born on June 10, 1938, Rahul Bajaj took over the responsibility of the Bajaj Group in 1965. Rahul Bajaj was awarded the third-highest civilian award Padma Bhushan in 2001. Bajaj had also served as a Rajya Sabha MP.

Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray expressed grief and announced that Rahul Bajaj's last rites will be performed with full state honours. Rahul Bajaj was born on June 10, 1938, in Kolkata. He took over the command of the Bajaj Group in the 60s. In 2005, he stepped down as chairman. Thereafter, his son Rajiv Bajaj took over the responsibility. The same Rahul Bajaj studied economics and law. He also holds an honours degree in economics from Delhi University, a law degree from Bombay University and an MBA from Harvard Business School. In 2008, he divided Bajaj Auto into three units. This includes Bajaj Auto, finance company Bajaj Finserv and a holding company. Rahul Bajaj was a businessman in the wake of India's freedom struggle and the grandson of Jamnalal Bajaj, a prominent supporter of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi.
