New Delhi: Tribal activist and popular activist of Jal Jungle Zameen Bachao Andolan Father Stan Swami (Stan Swamy) has passed away tragically today. Father Stan Swamy was also an accused in the Elgar Parishad case. For the past few days, there have been deteriorating health reports of 84-year-old activism. He was admitted to Holy Family Hospital due to ill health. But on Monday afternoon, the Bombay High Court has been informed that he has passed away.

Expressing grief over the death of the Father, Rahul Gandhi said in his tweet, "Heartiest condolences on the passing away of Stan Swami. He deserved justice and humanity". In fact, activist Stan Swami had been ill for a long time. He had also sought bail from the Bombay High Court. But he could not get bail after the NIA protested.

Let us tell you that Stan Swamy was detained by NIA last year from Ranchi in connection with the Bhima Korgoon violence case. On January 1, 2018, there was a programme of dalit community. The Algar Council held the conference and violence erupted during this time. One person was killed and several others injured in the violence. Stan Swamy was also present at the same event. Swamy was booked based on the speeches made at the event. Stan Swamy was booked under UAPA by NIA.
