Kurukshetra: Industrialist Naveen Jindal of the BJP, Sushil Gupta of the AAP, and Abhay Singh Chautala from the influential Chautala family are gearing up for a closely contested three-way battle in the Kurukshetra Lok Sabha constituency in Haryana. Jindal, returning to politics after a decade, seeks his third win from Kurukshetra and aims to transform the historically and religiously significant constituency into a spiritual hub.

Jindal's rivals are formidable contenders in their own right. Abhay Singh Chautala, Secretary General of the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) and the lone MLA of his party, and Sushil Gupta, AAP's Haryana unit president, are also in the fray.

Kurukshetra, with the maximum number of candidates among the 10 constituencies in Haryana, will see a fierce competition. Both Gupta and Jindal rank among the wealthiest candidates in Phase 6 of the Lok Sabha polls scheduled for May 25.

Having switched from Congress to BJP in March, Jindal previously represented Kurukshetra from 2004 to 2014. His late father, noted industrialist O P Jindal, had also represented the constituency.

The BJP, aiming for its third consecutive victory here, faces a challenge from the opposition focusing on farmer issues, inflation, and unemployment.

The outgoing MP from Kurukshetra, Nayab Singh Saini, who replaced M L Khattar as Haryana's Chief Minister in March, is now contesting the Karnal assembly bypolls on the same day as the Lok Sabha voting.

In the run-up to the polls, opposition candidates are highlighting farmer issues and criticizing the BJP's governance. Kurukshetra, located about 150 km from Delhi, is known for its historical and religious significance, being the site of the Mahabharata battle.

Jindal has expressed his vision to develop Kurukshetra into one of the most developed constituencies in India. He emphasized the support he has received from the public and touted the achievements of the BJP-led government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

As campaigning intensifies, Gupta and Chautala are also actively campaigning on platforms of good governance, education, healthcare, and fighting corruption.

The Kurukshetra parliamentary seat covers the entire Kurukshetra and Kaithal districts and parts of Yamunanagar district. In the last assembly election, BJP won four of the nine Assembly segments, JJP won two, Congress won two, and one was won by an Independent.
