NEW DELHI: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi paid tribute to Swami Vivekananda on the occasion of his death anniversary, emphasizing that Swami Vivekananda fearlessly enlightened the world and imparted lessons of compassion and brotherhood. In a heartfelt tweet in Hindi, Rahul Gandhi stated, "Swami Vivekananda taught the entire world the invaluable virtues of fearlessness, compassion, and brotherhood."

Expressing deep reverence and homage, he added, "On this day, we respectfully commemorate the exceptional spiritual luminary, Swami Vivekananda, on his death anniversary." Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge also took to Twitter to honor Swami Vivekananda, highlighting his significant contribution in making Indian civilization and culture renowned globally.

In a Hindi tweet, Kharge expressed, "Millions of salutes to Swami Vivekananda, the eminent thinker and a perennial source of inspiration for the youth, who elevated Indian civilization and culture to global prominence." He further shared excerpts from Swami Vivekananda's historic speech delivered at the Parliament of Religions in Chicago, USA, in 1893, which he believed held immense relevance even in the present times.

"On his death anniversary, let us reflect upon some profound words from his remarkable speech at the Parliament of Religions in Chicago, USA, delivered in 1893. These words continue to hold significant relevance today: 'Communalism, bigotry, and the dreadful descendant dogma have long held the earth in their grip. They have saturated the earth with violence, staining it with the blood of countless civilizations and countries. Were it not for these terrible demons, today's human society would have advanced far beyond its current state. But their time is now over. I earnestly hope that the clarion call of this convention will obliterate all dogmas, all forms of affliction, be it by sword or pen, and all animosity among humankind,'" tweeted Kharge.

Swami Vivekananda is renowned for introducing the philosophies of Vedanta and yoga from India to the Western world. His fame grew after his remarkable speech at the World's Parliament of Religions in Chicago in 1893. Being the chief disciple of the 19th-century Indian mystic Ramakrishna and the founder of the Ramakrishna Math and the Ramakrishna Mission, Swami Vivekananda played a vital role in reviving Hinduism in India and elevating it to the status of a major world religion during the late 19th century. In India, his birthday on January 12 is celebrated as National Youth Day, acknowledging his lasting impact and influence.
