Congress leader Shashi Tharoor has shared a collage of global media on their coverage of Rahul Gandhi's disqualification from the Parliament.

The collage consists of some of the big media entities such as Guardian Australia, The New York Times, The Washington Post, RFI,  CNN Brasil, Telemundo etc. 

Throor's tweet is attempting to reflect the popularity of Rahul Gandhi around the world. Shashi Tharoor wrote, "They tried to silence a voice. Now every corner of the world hears the voice of India".

Yesterday, the great-grandson of India's first prime minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, lost his right to serve as an MP after being found guilty of making a derogatory comment about Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The Surat Court had convicted Rahul Gandhi of defamation and sentenced him to 2 years in prison for mocking the surname "Modi" in an election speech in Karnataka in 2019.

Gandhi was also denied access to the Lok Sabha on Friday. Gandhi was declared ineligible by the legislation, and the lower house of parliament declared that he is consequently unable to take part in parliamentary proceedings.

Opposition groups, including well-known figures like Trinamool Congress Chief Mamata Banerjee, Aam Aadmi Party Chairman Arvind Kejriwal, and Samajwadi Party Chief Akhilesh Yadav, strongly opposed the proposal.
Gandhi is out on bail for 30 days and intends to file an appeal, but according to the legislation, a criminal conviction and prison sentence of two years or more is grounds for expulsion from Parliament.

The Bharatiya Janata Party, led by PM Modi, has since rejected the accusations and referred to the exclusion as "lawful."

The exclusion of Rahul Gandhi from the Lok Sabha might have a number of effects. Gandhi might lose his government house in Lutyens' Delhi and be prohibited from running in elections for eight years.

After receiving the official residence at 12, Tughlaq Lane after winning the 2014 Lok Sabha elections from the Uttar Pradesh constituency of Amethi, the former Congress president has resided there.

A by-election can "legally" be held in Wayanad, Kerala to fill the seat given there is still more than a year until national elections in 2024.
