New Delhi: The monsoon which was seen more than expected in the month of June in the country, now is likely to remain in the minimum range of normal as well. After remaining very weak in August, Southwest Monsoon is likely to remain marginally better in September. Rainfall in September is expected to be over 110 percent of the Long Period Average (LPA), but this will not be enough to cover the shortfall for the entire season.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of 10 percent more rain than normal in September. The average rainfall across the country in September is 170 mm. Above normal rains are expected in many parts of Central India and below normal in Northwest, North East, and South Peninsula. According to the India Meteorological Department, the total rainfall in the monsoon season from June to September is now expected to be around 96 percent of the LPA, which will be at the lower end of the normal range.

Rainfall between 96 to 104 percent of the LPA is considered normal. The LPA for the monsoon season for these four months is 89 CM. The LPA for September alone is around 17 cm, the lowest in the four-month monsoon season. In such a situation, if there is heavy rain in September, it will not be able to compensate for the deficiency of the entire monsoon.
