New Delhi: Rajasthan has often been in the news for the rising number of cases of political tug of war and crime, but the state has now lagged far behind in employment. According to data released by the non-governmental organisation Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE), unemployment in the state stands at 32.3 per cent.

The CMIE has released the unemployment report of states across the country from 2016 to February 2022. According to this report, for the first time in Rajasthan, the unemployment figure has crossed 30 per cent. The unemployment rate in Rajasthan was 3.8 per cent in February 2016, which has increased to 32.3 per cent in February 2022. From 2013 to 2018, there was a BJP government in Rajasthan, since then, it is ruled by Congress under the leadership of Ashok Gehlot. Rajasthan is followed by Haryana with 31 per cent in terms of unemployment. This is followed by Jharkhand at 15 per cent, Bihar at 14 per cent, Jammu and Kashmir at 13.2 per cent.

The lowest unemployment in the country is in Odisha (just 1 per cent). This is followed by Meghalaya at 1.4 per cent, Chhattisgarh at 1.7 per cent, Karnataka at 2 per cent and Gujarat at 2.5 per cent. However, Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot, while announcing the budget recently, has said that he will recruit 1 lakh posts in government departments.
