CHENNAI: Rajanikant, a legendary actor and a megastar of South Indian cinema, turned 72 on Monday. His birthday was celebrated in style all over Tamil Nadu,  with a group of fans in Madurai cutting a cake weighing 73 kg and 15 feet in length.

The inscription on the cake was attractive and reads, 'One Nation, One Election'.

Kamal Haasan, a fellow actor with him and a celebrity of the Tamil cinema industry, wished his best friend Rajanikanth a happy 72nd birthday. Kamal greeted: "Happy birthday, Rajinikanth, my dear buddy and superstar. I hope your excellent path continues on this special day." In a tweet, actor Dhanush wished Thalaiva a happy birthday. The actor Raghavendra Lawrence tweeted, "Cheers to Thalaiva's birthday! I offer up a prayer for your health, Ragavendra Swamy! I wish you a long life! With your blessings, we are beginning Jigirathanda shooting today! Dear Guruve Saranam!" The legendary actor received well wishes from Mammootty and Mohanlal, two Malayalam film icons. Tweeted Mammootty: "Have a wonderful year ahead, Dear @rajinitkanth, and happy birthday! Always be blessed, happy, and healthy." In addition, Mammootty posted a still from the blockbuster film Thalapathi, in which he appeared alongside Rajinikanth.

Through his Twitter account, Mohanlal wished Rajinikanth a very happy birthday. He stated: "Happy birthday to my dearest @rajinikanth sir, who has been called "an emotion of the nation." God grant you continued good health, joy, and serenity of mind." Dulquer Salman, a Malayalam actor and Mamooty's son, wrote on Twitter: "Wishing superstar #Rajinikanth Sir a happy birthday! You are the finest, and you will always motivate us." Khushbu Sundar, an actor turned politician, stated in a tweet: "Happy birthday to the greatest Super Star of Indian film, a hero who epitomised the true definition of valour, a trend-setter, and most importantly, a man of honour and respect. A very happy birthday to you, Rajanikanth Sir." The cast and crew of his upcoming film "Jailor" shared a montage on social media to wish the actor a happy birthday.
