NEW DELHI: In a major political development in Rajasthan, Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is set to kick off the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) third 'Parivartan Sankalp Yatra' today, heralding a crucial phase in the run-up to the impending assembly elections. The state, which is gearing up for the upcoming electoral battle later this year, has become a key battleground for political parties.

Rajnath Singh will commence this high-profile yatra from the historic city of Jaisalmer, situated in the heart of Rajasthan. The Defence Minister's presence adds considerable weight to this campaign, underlining the BJP's commitment to securing a stronghold in the state.

This 'Parivartan Sankalp Yatra' is part of a larger political strategy by the BJP to sway the electorate in its favor. The yatra will traverse a significant distance, covering 2,500 kilometers and encompassing 52 Vidhan Sabhas over a span of 19 days. The BJP has planned a series of 156 small gatherings and 54 large gatherings during this extensive journey.

The launch of this yatra has been strategically timed, following the recent flag-off of the second 'Parivartan Sankalp Yatra' by Union Home Minister and senior BJP leader Amit Shah from Dungarpur, Rajasthan, on September 3.

According to the BJP's official statement, "The completion of this Parivartan Yatra is expected to seal the fate of the Ashok Gehlot-led Congress government in Rajasthan." This underscores the party's determination to wrest control of the state from the Congress.

Notably, the BJP had already initiated its electoral campaign in Rajasthan earlier this month when Bharatiya Janata Party National President JP Nadda flagged off the first 'Parivartan Sankalp Yatra' on September 2. This inaugural yatra is an ambitious endeavor, slated to traverse all 200 assembly constituencies in the state, covering an astounding 9,000 kilometers. The BJP aims to reach out to over 1 crore people in Rajasthan through this massive outreach program.

Rajasthan's upcoming assembly elections are poised to be a fierce contest between the BJP and the incumbent Congress, reminiscent of their battle in 2018 when the Congress emerged victorious with 99 seats while the BJP secured 73 seats in the 200-member house. The Congress, led by Ashok Gehlot, managed to form the government with the support of Independents and the BSP. As the political landscape heats up with these yatras, all eyes will be on Rajasthan in anticipation of a hotly contested electoral showdown.
