HYDERABAD: Municipal administration and urban development minister K. T. Rama Rao inaugurated and handed over 40 double bedroom houses to beneficiaries at Kodgal village, Jadcherla constituency, on Friday.

Rama Rao slammed the BJP-led federal government, accusing it of discriminating against Telangana in the approval of new projects and funding allocations for the previous eight years, despite repeated petitions from Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao.

The Chief Minister had personally requested that Prime Minister Narendra Modi grant national status to either the Kaleshwaram or Palamuru Rangareddy lift irrigation projects, according to Rama Rao, but the Centre had not responded.

"When Telangana sought for national status for a single irrigation project in Telangana, such as Polavaram in Andhra Pradesh, the Centre informed us that it had made a policy decision not to grant national status to any project in the future. Surprisingly, the Upper Bhadra project in neighbouring Karnataka was later designated as a national project. Is this because Karnataka is governed by the BJP whereas Telangana is not? Why is Telangana being treated unfairly, despite the fact that it is India's fourth largest economy?" Rama Rao was the one who inquired.
