Nobody had even imagined that the serial 'Ramayana', which will be aired again on Doordarshan, will create history. It is even more surprising that Ramanand Sagar was a common man like us who made historical shows like Ramayana. Ramanand's childhood was spent in hard time even after being born in a rich family. Today we are going to share some untouched aspects of Ramanand Sagar, director of the TV show Ramayana. He was born on 29 December 1917 in Lahore. His name was Chandramouli at birth. His grandfather came from Peshawar and settled in Kashmir along with the family. Gradually, he became the city's Seth. His mother died when Ramanand was 5 years old. He was adopted by his childless maternal uncle at a very young age.

His name was changed from Chandramouli to Ramanand Sagar. Despite being in the maternal uncle's house, his childhood was spent in pain. Although no one has come to know about the whole thing till now. Ramanand was very fond of reading and writing. He used to study day and night. At the age of 16, he wrote his first book - Pritam Pratiksha. This was the period when he used to work to complete his studies. He has worked from peon to selling soap. He has also worked as a helper and truck cleaner in a goldsmith shop. He used to invest as much money in his studies. While doing so, he also got his degree with work. Ramanand Sagar was an expert in writing. Since his childhood had gone through pain, the glimpse of this is seen in his stories later.

He has written 32 short stories, 4 stories, 1 novel, 2 plays. He has been the editor of the famous daily Punjab Milap. He made his debut in films as Clapper Boy. He worked as an assistant stage manager in Prithvi Theaters. The story and screenplay of Raj Kapoor's film Barsaat was written by Ramanand Sagar. He received the award for Best Director for the 1968 film Aankhen (Dharmendra and Mala Sinha). Ramanand produced Ramayan, apart from films in 1987, and upon seeing it reached every corner of the world. Ramanand Sagar was being discussed not only in India but also in other countries.
