Dibrugarh: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the renowned industrialist Ratan Tata inaugurated seven state-of-the-art cancer hospitals on Thursday, and also laid the foundation stone for seven more cancer hospitals.

"In Assam, seven new cancer hospitals were opened today. There was a period when even one hospital opening in seven years was a cause for celebration. The times have changed. In a few months, three new cancer hospitals would be ready for your service, "Prime Minister Modi said.

The Prime Minister noted at the ceremony in Dibrugarh that his government has also focused on preventative healthcare through yoga, fitness, and cleanliness. "Hospitals are available to you, but I'll be glad if these new hospitals remain unoccupied; I pray for your health... Our government has also put a strong emphasis on preventative healthcare through yoga, fitness, and 'swachhata.' In the country, new testing centres are being established "he stated

Ratan Tata, who was also present, said, "I have devoted the last few years of my life to improving my health. Make Assam a state that everyone acknowledges and respects."

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma thanked Ratan Tata and the Indian government for their support, saying that the world's largest cancer treatment will assist Assam and Southeast Asia. "The largest cancer treatment centre in Assam and Southeast Asia... This is a big accomplishment for us. I appreciate Ratan Tata and the Government of India's contribution "he stated

With 17 cancer care institutions spread across the state, the Assam Cancer Care Foundation, a joint venture of the Government of Assam and Tata Trusts, is working on a mission to develop South Asia's biggest affordable cancer care network. Seven of the ten hospitals built as part of Phase 1 of the project have been completed, while three others are in various stages of construction. The project's second phase will see the development of seven additional cancer hospitals.
