New Delhi: Former Team India coach Ravi Shastri has recently revealed that he was stunned to see a figure of Virat Kohli in front of him during the rescheduled Test match on the Tour of England. Shastri had compared Virat with star players like New Zealand's Kane Williamson, Australian opener David Warner, Pakistan captain Babar Azam and England captain Joe Root.
During a press conference organized by Star Sports, the official broadcaster of the Asia Cup 2022, Shastri said, "During the Test match against England, a figure came out which really surprised me. In statistics, Virat Kohli has played three times more matches than the world's top batsmen Kane Williamson, David Warner, Babar Azam and Joe Root in three years. It surprised me that Virat was on around 950 games, while the next player after that was on 400 matches. He played less than half the cricket compared to Virat. When you are the captain of a team, and play all three formats, it is quite tough.''
In fact, Shastri has seen Kohli very closely and has also coached him, so Shastri is confident that the star batsman of India will return to his best form soon. He feels that no Indian cricketer is above Virat in terms of fitness and he is a machine according to his age. Shastri said, "Kohli is such a big player, he has full fitness, and physical strength. Performance can be regained with mental strength, his hunger and passion are the same as before, I can tell you with full confidence. He is hungry, and passionate and must have learnt a lot from this patch that he has gone through. All players learn. When you are suddenly at the top of your career and then everything stops, you come down, it is your character that inspires you to get up and stand up and struggle again.''
