Ravindra Kapoor became famous as Goga Kapoor. Before appearing in films, Goga did a lot of work in theatre. In the initial days, he worked in many English plays. He also made an impact with his acting and soon he started getting offers for films. In the year 1971, he entered the Hindi film industry with the film Jwala. He appeared in several films one after the other. His character in Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak was well received. In his acting career, Goga acted in more than 500 films.

 He has worked in various film but the role that gave him fame is in BR Chopra's Mahabharata. He played the role of Kansa, the maternal uncle of Lord Shri Krishna in the Mahabharata. He became popular after playing it. However, at that time people used to worship who plays positive roles in Mythology and thos who play negative characters received hatred. When he Ravinder started playing the character Kansa in BR Chopra's Mahabharat, people started calling him Kansa Mama.
