COLOMBO: In a thrilling twist of events, Ravindra Jadeja has etched his name into the annals of Asian cricket history as the most successful bowler for India in the Asia Cup's illustrious ODI history. Jadeja's remarkable achievement came to fruition during the high-stakes clash against Sri Lanka in the Super Four stage at the revered R. Premadasa Stadium on Tuesday.

The spirited left-arm spinner showcased his immense talent by claiming two crucial wickets while conceding just 33 runs in the match. With this stellar performance, Jadeja now boasts an impressive tally of 24 wickets in 18 innings, surpassing the previous record holder, Irfan Pathan, who had notched up 22 scalps in 12 innings.

Notably, Jadeja faces competition from his fellow spinner Kuldeep Yadav, who has notched up 19 wickets in nine innings in the same tournament. Overall, Jadeja occupies the esteemed fifth position in the list of the highest wicket-takers in Asia Cup history, with the legendary Muthiah Muralidaran leading the charts with a staggering 30 scalps in 24 innings.

The clash against Sri Lanka proved to be a defining moment for India's bowling attack, as they successfully halted Sri Lanka's impressive streak of 13 consecutive ODI victories. Their collective effort secured India's place in the final of the highly anticipated Asia Cup 2023, and they achieved this feat with a game to spare. The hosts were left floundering, managing to muster only 172 runs while chasing a modest target at the R. Premadasa Stadium on Tuesday.

In a game where spinners from both sides showcased their prowess, the pacers also made their presence felt, contributing significantly to India's commanding 41-run victory over the co-hosts. Earlier in the match, the dynamic duo of Belligerent Dunith Wellalage and Charith Asalanka tore through India's top-order batsmen, ultimately leading to India's dismissal for a total of 213 runs.

A standout moment in the game was Wellalage's remarkable achievement as he achieved his maiden 5-wicket haul. His exceptional bowling display dismantled a formidable Indian batting lineup, claiming the prized wickets of prominent batters such as Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, and Hardik Pandya.
