Rawalpindi [Pakistan], April 19 (NT): A village in Rawalpindi District of Pakistan's Punjab province has been named after Malala Yousafzai, the 17- year –old youngest Nobel Peace Prize winner as ANI reported.

Pakistani Social activist Baseer Ahmad took to Twitter to share this news."The village has been named 'Malala' near #Gujar Khan, Rawalpindi," Ahmad tweeted.

Malala Yousafzai landed in Pakistan last month, after spending about six years abroad.

During her four-day reside in Pakistan, the advocate for women empowerment visited her native place Swat Valley. Here Malala also met Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi amid strict security in view of her return. Her home-arrival was kept top secret due to security reasons.

The education activist Malala was shot in the head in October 2012 by the Taliban gunmen for dynamically supporting girls' right to education. In the same year, she left Pakistan after surviving an assassination shot by Taliban.

She was smacked in the head, but survived the attack and was airlifted to the Military Hospital Peshawar. Yousafzai was then shifted to London for advanced treatment.

At the young age of 17, Malala was accorded the Nobel Peace Prize for her contributions towards promoting education for children. She shared the prize with Indian Kailash Satyarthi, who is a children's rights activist.
