Hyderabad: 300 contract staff nurses and nursing students from Telangana have sought appointments from the KCr government by withdrawing new appointments soon. Protests were held across the city on various areas like Amberpet, Koti and Afzalganj. Staff nurses and nursing students are demanding that the vacant nursing posts be filled up soon.

The Telangana government has been recruiting new staff nurses for 10 years. Notification was issued only once in 2017 and its results were released after 3 years in 2020. But the government has not yet been able to provide employment to pass-out nurses.

The contract nurse says, 'We are staff nurses who have been working as contract nurses for 10 years and they have promised to regularize our posts, but have not done anything like that yet. Then when we asked for a notification to take the exam, we got the notification in 2017 and the results were given in 2020 3 years later.

A nurse working on a contract at Osmania General Hospital said we were still waiting for appointments. It was disappointing. On an average, 3,300 posts in Telangana are vacant and we have been waiting for recruitment for three years but have not given notification. The government is only asking for the contract nurses to fill up the posts as soon as possible.
