New Delhi: Over 50 lakh vehicles registration have been cancelled by the transport department so far this year. Officials have said that these vehicles include diesel vehicles older than 10 years and petrol vehicles older than 15 years. In fact, to prevent vehicular pollution, the transport department is reining in polluting vehicles.  

According to the data, 53,38,045 vehicles were registered between 2018 and 2022. However, till October 17 this year, 50,25,447 vehicles were deregistered. In 2018, after the Supreme Court's important order, diesel and petrol vehicles older than 10 years and 15 years were banned from plying in Delhi respectively. Officials have said that the de-registered vehicles include 46 lakh petrol vehicles older than 15 years, 4,15,362 diesel vehicles older than 10 years and 1,46,681 petrol and CNG vehicles. Now, these de-registered vehicles will not ply on Delhi roads.

As of January 31, there were around 13.4 million (13,402,875) registered vehicles in Delhi, of which over 7.8 million (78,66,867) vehicles have been classified as 'active' vehicles by the transport department. According to the transport department report, active vehicles are vehicles that have valid registration and have not yet reached the age of 'end of life' and are suitable for plying on city roads.
