Landslides and felling of trees have led to many highway jams. This natural disaster became a political issue when the city's Mayor Marcelo Crivella in Rio blamed the people there for the floods.
He said in a press conference that people throw garbage in the mountainous areas. In the middle of the press talk, mud was thrown on Crivella's face, whose video went viral on social media. 65-year-old Rio resident Evon Cardoso said, 'My kitchen, bathroom, bedroom are filled with dirty water everywhere. In January this year, more than 50 people died due to heavy rains in Minas Gerais, close to Sao Paolo.
