As the world celebrates World Teachers' Day on October 5th, the people of Madhya Pradesh take a moment to remember and honor a remarkable historical figure who was not only a queen but also a teacher of courage, valor, and good governance. Rani Durgavati, the illustrious ruler of Gondwana from 1550 to 1564, is commemorated today on the occasion of her 500th birth anniversary with the unveiling of a grand memorial at Madan Mahal in Jabalpur.

Rani Durgavati, born on October 5, 1524, in the fort of Mahoba, Uttar Pradesh, into the family of Chandel Rajput king Keerat Rai, left an indelible mark on history. Her legacy is one of unwavering courage and patronage, and she achieved significant feats during her reign that further enriched the traditions of her ancestors.

In 1542, Rani Durgavati married Dalpat Shah, the adopted son of King Sangram Shah of the Garha Kingdom. This strategic alliance between the Chandel and Rajgond dynasties played a pivotal role in aiding Keerat Rai during the Muslim invasion of Sher Shah Suri, as the Gonds provided crucial support.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, who presided over the grand memorial's foundation laying ceremony, announced that the monument will be built at a cost of Rs 100 crore. This memorial will serve as a living testament to Rani Durgavati's bravery, valor, service, good governance, and glory, ensuring that her memory endures through the ages.

Addressing a gathering at the Veterinary Ground in Jabalpur, Chief Minister Chouhan spoke about the significance of Balidan Diwas, observed every year on September 18 by the state government to commemorate the sacrifices of tribal heroes. He highlighted the fulfillment of all 14 announcements made for the welfare of the tribal population during the Martyrs’ Day program held in Jabalpur the previous year, with the support of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

Chief Minister Chouhan reiterated the government's commitment to the welfare of tribal communities and mentioned various schemes aimed at their upliftment. Under the PESA (Panchayats Extension to Scheduled Areas) Act, tribes in 89 tribal development blocks were granted absolute rights over water, forests, and land, leading to significant progress in their economic condition.

Chouhan emphasized the government's dedication to providing equal opportunities and resources for all. To promote education, five percent of seats in medical schools have been reserved for children from government schools, and incentives like laptops and scooters have been provided to high-achieving students.

Furthermore, the state government has recognized and honored women through the Mukhyamantri Ladli Bahna Yojana, highlighting its commitment to gender equality and empowerment.
