On Monday, the famous artist of Indian modern painting world, Akbar Padamsee died at the age of 91 years. Padamsee was a big name in modern art along with French artists Souza, MF Hussain, Syed Haider Raza.

The Government of India honored him with 'Padmabhushan' in the year 2010. His abstract art became very popular in the world of 'Metascape' series and mirror imagery. In his long art journey, he did a lot of work in oil painting, plastic emulsion, watercolor, sculpture, and photography. Along with Lalit Kala Academy, the Madhya Pradesh government honored him with 'Kalidas Samman' in the year 1997.

Akbar Padamsee, originally from Kutch, Gujarat, was born on 12 April 1928 in Mumbai. His tendency towards art was with Illustrations, later he explored various aspects of art. For many years he worked only on 'gray'. In the year 2016 itself, one of his paintings was sold for 19 crores, which was kept in Saffron Or Evening Sales. This painting was a representative picture of his 'gray period'. Akbar built it in 1960. In the same auction, the paintings of painter Vasudev Gaitonde (10 crores 12 lakh 50 thousand) and Maqbul Fida Hussain (4 crores 44 lakh) were ranked second and third respectively.
