New Delhi: One of the main reasons for the murder incidents in India is love affair. According to NCRB, love affair is the third largest cause of murder. Although a decrease has been registered in murder cases, but the cases of murder are increasing continuously due to love affair. According to statistics, between 2001 and 2017, the highest number of murder cases were due to love affair.

According to NCRB data, in 2001, 36 people were killed due to love affair, although in 2002 it saw a decline and 28 people were killed. In the year 2017, 653 people were killed. During this period, there was a decrease of 4.3 per cent in the cases of murder due to personal retaliation. The property dispute recorded a 12 per cent decrease in the death cases, while the death due to love affair saw an increase of 28 per cent. In 2015, 1,379 murder cases were registered due to love affair, while 1,493 cases were registered in 2016 and 1,390 cases in 2017.

The highest number of murders in India occurred between 2001 and 2017 in Andhra Pradesh due to love affair. A total of 384 people were killed here due to love affair. The second number is from Maharashtra where 277 people were killed during this period. Then Gujarat where 158 people were killed and Punjab is at number four where 98 people were killed.
