New Delhi: Firdous Ahmad Khan and Bashir Ahmad Ahanger from Jammu and Kashmir have been selected for Fire Service Medal for Gallantry awards on the occasion of Republic Day, 2023.

Their names are listed among the 47 individuals who were given Fire Service Medals. Further,  55 personnel are also awarded Home Guard and Civil Defence Medals on the occasion.

Only two personnel, namely Firdous Ahmad Khan, a Selection Grade Fireman, and Bashir Ahmad Ahanger, a Fireman, out of the 47 recipients of the Fire Service Medals have received the Fire Service Medal for Valor in recognition of their acts of bravery and gallantry. Both are from Jammu and Kashmir.

For their individual remarkable and meritorious records of service, the President's Fire Service Medal for Distinguished Service is given to seven personnel, while the Fire Service Medal for Meritorious Service is given to 38 personnel. The Home Guards and Civil Defence Medal for Valor is given to one individual out of the 55 recipients for his deed of bravery and gallantry.

The Home Guards and Civil Defense Medal for Valor has been presented to Chandigarh resident Prakash Singh Negi, a volunteer with the home guard.

The Home Guards and Civil Defense Medal for Meritorious Service and the President's Home Guards and Civil Defence Medal for Distinguished Service are given to nine and 45 personnel, respectively.

\Each year on Republic Day and Independence Day, the members of the Fire Services, Civil Defense, and Home Guards receive the President's Medal for Gallantry, President's Medal for Distinguished Services, Gallantry Medal, and Meritorious Services Medal.
