Bangalore: Former Karnataka CM and senior Congress leader Siddaramaiah has said that if the Congress comes to power, the 4 per cent Araskhan quota for Muslims will be restored. Let us inform that last month itself, the Bommai government had abolished the 4 percent reservation issued for Muslims in the state. Regarding the restoration of Tipu Jayanti, Siddaramaiah has said that a decision will be taken on this after a meeting with the MLAs and the cabinet.

With this, Siddaramaiah claimed the victory of the Congress in the state assembly elections. During this, the journalist asked Siddaramaiah about the abolition of 4 percent Muslim reservation in the state. Responding to this, Siddaramaiah said that if the Congress government is formed in the state, the Muslim reservation abolished by the BJP would be re-implemented. Siddaramaiah said that we will also make arrangements for reservation for Lingayat and Vokkaliga communities.

Let us inform that in March 2023, the Basavaraj Bommai government of Karnataka had removed the Muslim reservation. Out of this 4 percent quota, the government had increased the reservations of Vokkaliga and Lingayat communities by 2 percent each. The BJP government had included Muslims in the 10 percent reservation category available under the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) category. Chief Minister Bommai had said that instead of 4 percent, Muslims will now get the benefit of 10 percent reservation. At the same time, Home Minister Amit Shah had said that there is a provision in the constitution to give reservation on the basis of caste and not on the basis of religion. That's why Muslims will be given reservation in EWS category, which includes all classes like Hindu, Sikh, Jain, Buddhist, Christian.
