New Delhi: PM Narendra Modi had addressed the CoWIN Global Conclave yesterday, (Monday). Meanwhile, PM Modi announced to make the CoWIN platform open-source soon so that all interested countries can use it. PM Modi has described the platform as a digital 'public good' for the world in the fight against corona.

In an interview to a private news channel, Dr. R.S. Sharma, Head of the Empowered Committee for Corona Vaccine, said that 'So far 76 countries have shown interest in the Covin portal of the Central Government. Talking about the availability of the platform, Dr Sharma said that the Government of India wants to share this successful port as an open source. However, the condition would be that the software would not be allowed to be used commercially or would not be packaged for resale'.

It may be mentioned that 196 officials from several countries and 116 delegates from 41 countries participated in the conclave on the CoWin portal. According to Dr Sharma, the success of the CoWIN portal launched on January 16, 2021 this year can be gauged from the fact that it achieved about 20 crore registrations in just four months of its launch. As on July 1, 2021, 35.4 crore people had registered themselves on it.
