Moscow: Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday (October 27) heaped praise on India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Putin said that PM Modi is a true patriot. Putin praised India fiercely and said that India has made great progress after colonial independence. Praising PM Modi at the 19th annual meeting of the Valdai Discussion Club in Moscow, Vladimir Putin said he is a true patriot and is capable of taking forward the independent thinking of his country.
Terming the relations between India and Russia as multifaceted, Putin said that India has an independent foreign policy and has always had special relations with Russia. Putin said India and Russia have developed a special relationship over the decades. There is no issue left between the two countries. Putin further said that 'India has made tremendous progress from being a British colony to a modern state. It has made such developments that make India an object of respect and admiration.' Praising PM Modi, Putin said, 'A lot has been done in India in the last few years under the leadership of PM Modi. Naturally, he is a true patriot. His idea for Make in India is both economically and morally important.'
The Russian President said that the future belongs to India. It can be proud to be the largest democracy. We have a close relationship.' Describing India's development as a tremendous journey from a British colony to a modern state, Putin said that nearly 1.5 billion people and definite development results make India worthy of respect and admiration. Putin also mentioned the defence partnership and growing trade ties. Putin further said that 'Business between us has increased significantly. PM Modi asked me to increase the supply of fertilizers to India and it has increased by 7.6 times. The business related to agriculture has almost doubled.'
