JOHANNESBURG : More than 300 cricketers will go under the hammer in the inaugural SA20 player auction, scheduled to take place in Cape Town on September 19.

More than 500 players expressed interest in participating in the auction, and when the six organisations submitted their shortlists, the number was whittled down to 318 candidates. At the Cape Town International Convention Centre, teams will compete against one another to win the top local and international T20 talent for their squads.

Notably, the franchises have already pre-signed 22 players on the list, and teams will use the remaining R34 million ($2 million) in their pay budgets during the auction.

"We are overjoyed by the cricket community's enthusiasm for participating in the SA20. The final roster of players features an intriguing mix of international stars, the class of Proteas players, and up-and-comers eager to stake their claims on the world stage "SA20 League Commissioner Graeme Smith stated in a release.

"We are anticipating the auction and watching how the squads are assembled for this intriguing first SA20," he continued.
