Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government has announced the establishment of an anti-terrorism squad (ATS) in The Muslim body Deoband, which has been strongly opposed by the Samajwadi Party (SP). The SP has accused the Yogi government of trying to scare Muslims. In fact, Darul Uloom Deoband is India's largest Islamic Madarsa, whose strings have been linked to terrorist incidents several times.

Briefing reporters after the Yogi government's decision to set up an ATS commando centre in Deoband, Uttar Pradesh ADG Law and Order Prashant Kumar said that such units of ATS are being set up not only in Deoband but also in Meerut, Bahraich and Shravasti and Jewar to speed up counter-terrorism operations. Preparations for the same have also started. According to ADG, the ATS centre in Deoband will further strengthen our grip in western Uttar Pradesh.

However, the Samajwadi Party is angry with the government's decision. SP legislature party leader Ram Govind Chaudhary says Deoband is a major centre of Islamic education, which is famous for religious education all over the world. In such a situation, the Yogi government is scaring Muslims by setting up ATS commando centres. Ramgovind alleged that the number of Muslims in western Uttar Pradesh is very high and that is why it is being done. At present, 2000 square metres of land of Darul Uloom Deoband has been allotted to ATS by the Government.
