BJP has hit back against this decision of Congress. BJP national spokesperson Sambit Patra took a dig at Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi, saying that it appears that she is talking about an economic downturn in her party as the people raising money for her are behind bars.

He said that it seems that Sonia Gandhi is worried about the economic slowdown in the Indian National Congress as both P Chidambaram and DK Shivakumar, who raised money for the Congress, are behind bars. He said that despite the slowdown in the global economy, the base of the Indian economy is strong and the government has taken steps to increase the growth rate.
