Mumbai: Today (January 30, Sunday) marks the 74th death anniversary of the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi. Rahul Gandhi tweeted that Gandhiji was killed by the Hindutvavadis on this day. Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut also gave his side of the story on the issue today. Sanjay Raut questioned that if he was a real Hindutvavadi who shot Gandhiji, he would have shot Jinnah. Jinnah had asked for Pakistan. Apart from this, Sanjay Raut, while discussing with reporters in Mumbai, also alleged that the applications of 6-7  Shiv Sena candidates for the UP assembly elections have been rejected. The Returning Officer, the District Magistrate are not ready to listen to anything. All this is happening because of the pressure of the BJP.

Sanjay Raut, while giving his side on Mahatma Gandhi's death anniversary, said, "masculinity had to be shown, then why did shoot an unarmed fakir Gandhiji, why didn't he kill Jinnah?" If the shooter had been a real Hindutvavadi and had the courage, he would have shot Mohammad Ali Jinnah for the real reason for partition. There may be comments on some of Gandhiji's characters, not on his personality. His contribution in uniting the nation, in raising the entire country against the British imperialists by being unarmed through non-violence and satyagraha is extraordinary.

On the issue of UP elections, Sanjay Raut said, ''BJP is afraid of Shiv Sena, so it is trying to stop Shiv Sena from establishing a foothold in UP. Elections in a democracy should be fair and fearless. Our candidates are being threatened there. BJP is afraid of our Hindutva. They are afraid that they may be defeated because of us there. Or they are also afraid that we may not come out winning somewhere.''
