Egypt's foreign minister Sameh Shoukry and Saudi Arabia's foreign minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud have agreed to increase cooperation in ensuring regional security and stability.

"We addressed subjects such as battling terrorism, events in Libya, Sudan, Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, and Yemen, as well as the Iranian nuclear issue and the current pertinent discussions in Vienna," Shoukry said after their meeting in Egypt's capital Cairo on Thursday.

According to sources, Egypt and Saudi Arabia have shared perspectives on dealing with the myriad difficulties facing both countries' national security. He also praised the "unique relations" between the two countries at the official and public levels.

Meanwhile, the Saudi Foreign Minister stated that Saudi Arabia and Egypt have strong historical ties and close cooperation in a number of areas, stressing that the two countries' leaders are earnest in their desire to elevate their relations to new heights in all areas.

The discussion, according to Prince Faisal, focused on a number of areas of mutual concern, including enhancing cooperation efforts to maintain peace and stability in the Middle East and Africa. Egypt and Saudi Arabia back exiled Yemeni President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi's administration and oppose the Houthi rebels' current control of broad swaths of Yemen, including the capital Sanaa.
