Bhopal: In a significant move, the Government of Madhya Pradesh has made the decision to incorporate the biography of Veer Savarkar as a mandatory subject for students in the state board, along with the Bhagavad Gita Sandesh. State Education Minister Inder Singh Parmar announced this development on Thursday. Additionally, the government has also decided to include the biographies of other notable figures such as Lord Parshuram, Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev, Rajguru, and many more.

Expressing dissatisfaction with the Congress' approach, the minister stated, "Regrettably, the Congress has neglected to educate about the true revolutionaries of India. However, we are committed to rectifying this oversight by including the biographies of these extraordinary heroes in the new syllabus. Veer Savarkar, Bhagavad Gita Sandesh, Lord Parshuram, Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev, Rajguru, and others will now form an integral part of our students' education." The detailed process for implementing these changes will be disclosed in due course.

Nevertheless, the decision to include Savarkar in the state board syllabus has drawn criticism from the Congress, who accuse the BJP-led state government of disrespecting freedom fighters. Madhya Pradesh Congress MLA Arif Masood voiced his disappointment, stating to ANI, "It is unfortunate that they wish to include Savarkar. He apologized to the British, and his inclusion in the syllabus is an insult to the valiant freedom fighters." Such objections arise ahead of the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly elections scheduled for November 2023.

Prior to this development, the Uttar Pradesh government also took a similar step by incorporating Veer Savarkar's biography as a compulsory subject in the state board curriculum. An official statement from the office of the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh revealed that the curriculum has been expanded to include the life stories of 50 other eminent individuals.

Significantly, the Uttar Pradesh board syllabus has undergone a substantial revision. The statement highlighted, "Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has integrated his life story into the curriculum to acquaint the children of the state with the great men, revolutionaries, freedom fighters, social reformers, historians, and exceptional personalities who selflessly sacrificed for our nation's independence." The revised syllabus will be implemented in schools starting from July, and this subject will be mandatory for all students, who must pass it to progress.
