The Supreme Court today on the complete ban on cow slaughter in states has dismissed the Public Interest Litigation (PIL). It said that it had earlier passed orders to stop the illegal transport of cows across the states.
Around 36 beef dealers associations in August filed a petition in court challenging the ban on cows. They asked the court to allow the slaughtering on bulls and bullocks. The Maharashtra Government by amending the Maharashtra Animal Preservation Act,1976 banned the slaughtering of cows,bulls and bullocks.

In May, the Bombay High Court confirmed the ban on slaughtering of cows.
