New Delhi: A large population of India is poor. Several reports have shown that a part of the population is unable to eat food for two days. Many state governments have started community kitchens. Where food is offered at very low prices. A petition has been made in the Supreme Court in this regard. The petition said that community kitchens should be set up in all states of the country. In this petition, the states and union territories have been directed to prepare the Community Kitchen Scheme.

The court has issued a notice to the Center seeking an answer on the issue. A bench of Justices NV Ramana and Ajay Rastogi issued notice to the Center and various ministries. The petition sought to give directions to the National Legal Services Authority (NLSA) to formulate a plan to reduce hunger, malnutrition and starvation deaths. Initially, the bench wondered about how NLSA is connected to this whole issue.

The bench asked advocate Ashima Mandla appearing on behalf of the petitioner and social workers Anun Dhawan, Ishaan Dhawan and Kunjna Singh as to why NLSA should be included in it. The bench initially called it a policy matter and said that the government should take a decision on it. However, the bench later agreed to the petition and issued a notice to the Center, various ministries and the NLSA to file a reply. The petition states that children under five die of hunger and malnutrition.
