SC willing to let lawyers Work-From-Home amid rising Covid cases

New Delhi: Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud on Wednesday, April 5, took note of the surging number of Covid-19 cases in India and said the Supreme Court is willing to hear lawyers via video conferencing.

Chief Justice Chandrachud said newspaper reports indicate that Covid19 cases are on the rise and if a lawyer wants to appear virtually before the court they can and the hybrid mode is also on.

"Newspaper reports on an increase in Covid cases were seen. Attorneys may employ hybrid mode. We will listen to you if you decide to come online "CJI, stated.

After considering the low infection incidence and the amount of Covid cases in Delhi and across the nation, the Supreme Court decided to resume adjudicating cases through physical hearings as of April 4, 2022.
The supreme court has long been experimenting with the hybrid hearing method, which combines physical and virtual hearings.

Even after actual hearings resumed, the Supreme Court began live-streaming the Constitution bench proceedings via the Supreme Court app and YouTube.

India reported 4435 new Covid cases on Wednesday, and there are already 23,091 ongoing cases.
