CBI has gone to Chandigarh to investigate the records of the Rs 250 crore high-profile scholarship scam in Himachal. The CBI team has captured records from universities, educational institutions, and banks. 3 officers including two inspectors investigating the scholarship scam have been transferred from Shimla. It is being told that this carnage has fallen due to a slowdown in the investigation. Another officer looking after the administration has also been replaced. A leading officer, in this case, is already on medical leave.

FIR was filed on 9 May
The CBI had registered an FIR on 9 May 2019 on the recommendation of the Himachal government. Raids were conducted in 22 educational institutions in Himachal, Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh. This action was carried out in Shimla, Sirmaur, Una, Bilaspur, Chamba and Kangra in Himachal Pradesh besides several educational institutions located in Karnal, Mohali, Nawanshahar, Ambala and Gurdaspur. It was also raided in banks.

After the complaint of Minister Ramlal Marakanda, the Department of Education investigated and from the year 2013-14 to 2016-17, during the issue of scholarship to 2.38 lakh SC, ST, and OBC students, there was a disturbance. The scholarship was distributed to 2772 educational institutions, in which 266 private educational institutions were present. 210 crore was given to private institutions and 56 crores to government institutions. Out of 2.38 lakh students, 19915 funds were released in bank accounts linked to four mobile phone numbers. The matter was also related to big educational institutions and other states, in which the government recommended a CBI inquiry.
