Schools in Telangana to be closed from Jan 8 to 16

Hydrabad: Telangana's schools and educational institutions will be closed from January 8 to January 16, Chief Minister's Office informed.

"Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao has directed that all educational institutions in the state announce a holiday from January 8 to January 16," according to the CMO. This decision was made at a meeting called by Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao to assess the pandemic scenario in light of the high increase of COVID-19 cases in the state.

In light of the escalating COVID-19 cases, the Chief Minister asked State Health Minister Harish Rao and medical officers to enhance all forms of infrastructure in government hospitals across the state, as well as equip existing beds, oxygen beds, medicines, and testing kits as needed.

The Chief Minister further asked people not to be alarmed by the COVID-19 Omicron variant, but to remain watchful and exercise self-control. He urged people to remain vigilant at work, wear masks, and follow the government's COVID-19 requirements, according to CMO.

Meanwhile, Telangana recorded 482 new COVID-19 cases on Monday, bringing the state's total number of infections to 6,82,971. With one more death, the state's death toll now stands at 4,031 people.
