Notification for the poll of the state's 80 municipal boars has been announced and the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) has been in force in election-bound areas throughout the state since February 10.

According to the notice, the Municipal Board Election, 2022 will be conducted on March 6, according to the State Election Commission's declaration. The deadline to submit nominations is February 15, and the submissions will be reviewed on February 17. The deadline for withdrawing one's nomination, on the other hand, is February 20, and the counting will take place on March 9.

Due to the ambiguity of the election and the MCC, Sumit Sattawan, the District Magistrate-cum-Deputy Commissioner of Lakhimpur, has promulgated 144 CrPC in the election-bound areas of the district under North Lakhimpur, Narayanpur, and Bihpuria municipal boards by issuing an order vide No. LMJ. 3/2019/109 dated February 10 in order to prevent the likelihood of a tainted role played by criminal outfits The injunction will remain in effect until the election is completed.

The same order makes it illegal for anyone in poll-bound areas to keep or possess firearms, and those who do are required to deposit their firearms and weapons with their respective police stations within seven days and obtain a correct receipt from the police authority, failing which they will be prosecuted under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
