Srinagar :In ongoing operations against terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir, two soldiers were martyred in separate encounters on Saturday in the Kulgam district. The encounters took place in the villages of Modergam and Chinigam, where at least six terrorists were killed. Two terrorists were neutralized in Modergam, and the remaining four were killed in Chinigam.

Security forces are currently engaged in operations to locate and neutralize additional terrorists believed to be hiding in the area. Reports suggest that two to three terrorists are sheltered in a hideout in a garden in Modergam, while another terrorist is suspected to be in hiding in Chinigam Frisal. The operations are ongoing, and this heightened security action coincides with the postponement of the Amarnath Yatra due to adverse weather conditions.

The first encounter occurred in Modergam village, where Para Commando Lance Naik Pradeep Nain was martyred while engaging the terrorists based on intelligence reports. The security forces had surrounded the hideout where two to three terrorists were believed to be hiding. The second encounter took place in Frisal Chinigam village. Information about the presence of Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists led to the engagement, during which Havildar Raj Kumar of the First National Rifles was martyred. As the terrorists opened fire upon the arrival of the security forces, the encounter intensified.

Inspector General of Police VK Birdhi visited the sites of the encounters and affirmed that the anti-terrorism operations would continue. This situation follows a recent incident in Pulwama district, where two top commanders of The Resistance Front, an offshoot of Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba, were killed in a previous encounter with security forces.
