Mumbai: A special PMLA court in Mumbai on Tuesday sent Nawab Malik, a minister in the Maharashtra government, to four-day judicial custody. Nawab Malik has been arrested by the ED in a money laundering case. The court, while sending Malik to judicial custody, said that on the basis of statements of witnesses, the criminal Nawab Malik prima facie appeared to be involved in the money laundering case.

The same court said in its order, "There are statements of witnesses in the case, they show the involvement of the offender in the money laundering case. Right now the investigation in the case is in the initial stage. It is also worth noting that the offender has challenged his arrest as well as earlier remand orders in the Bombay High Court, the court said. The court said, "In view of the grounds of the remand report, it is necessary to send the offender to judicial custody for 14 days. ''

The same Nawab Malik is currently in judicial custody in Arthur Road jail. Earlier, Nawab Malik had called his arrest illegal and demanded the Bombay High Court to postpone the money laundering case filed against him. At the same time, special PMLA court judge Rahul Rokade said, the matter is sub-judice in the high court. The Enforcement Directorate had arrested Nawab Malik on February 23.
