Indian share markets ended sharply higher on Wednesday led by Reliance Industries, which gained 4.56 percent. The BSE benchmark index Sensex gained 1,147.76 points to close at 51,444.65 whereas the NSE Nifty50 index settled 326.50 points higher at 15,245.60.

IN the Nifty, Tata Steel was the top gainer, up 5.66 percent followed by Bajaj Finserv and Reliance Industries, which gained 5.25 percent and 4.56 percent respectively.

Hero MotoCorp was the top loser in the Nifty, down 1.44 percent followed by Maruti Suzuki and Bajaj Auto, which fell 1.26 percent and 1.34 percent respectively. M&M, BPCL, Eicher Motors were the other losers in the Nifty.

However, midcap and smallcap stocks underperformed the benchmark index. The BSE Midcap index rose 1.45 percent while the BSE Smallcap index settled 1.34 percent higher. 

RIL's telecom unit Reliance Jio, India’s largest telco, bagged roughly three-fourths of the spectrum sold in the two-day event that concluded yesterday and helped the government garner Rs 77,815 crore.

Out of the 3,171 stocks traded on the BSE, 1,844 stocks settled higher while 1,156 stocks closed with losses. BSE market capitalization rose to Rs 210.19 lakh crore as compared to Rs 206.56 lakh crore last day.
