The serial bomb blasts on Tuesday, March 07, 2021 in a military barrack in Equatorial Guinea have claimed 20 lives, and more than 600 people have been badly injured. Officials have said that the explosion in the military barrack happened around 4 pm local time. The military barrack is located near Mondong Nukuntoma in Bata. The President said in the statement that "the explosion was so strong that it has damaged almost all the houses and buildings in Bata".

The Ministry of Defense issued a statement late on Sunday night, saying that it has been learned that there was an explosion in the arms depot in Barrack due to the fire. The statement said that 20 people are feared dead and 600 people are injured in the blast and work is being done to find out the real cause of the blast. Equatorial Guinea is an African country with a population of 1.3 million, located south of Cameroon. It was a colony of Spain before independence in 1968. Prior to this, the Ministry of Health had said that 17 people were killed in the blast while the President had informed about the death of 15 people. Foreign Minister Simen Oyono Esono Aangu met the foreign ambassadors and appealed for assistance. The explosion is a setback for the oil-rich Central African country.

Continuing his talk, he said, "In view of the state of health emergency (due to Kovid-19) in the country and the tragedy in Bata, it is becoming necessary to ask for help from friendly countries in the event of such crisis. Radio station 'Radio Macuto' said on Twitter that people within a four-kilometer radius of the city are being evacuated to safer places, as the smoke emanating from the explosion could be harmful. Following the explosion, the Spanish embassy on Twitter demanded "citizens of Spain to stay in their homes".
