In Bollywood where women are still fighting for equal pay, yesterday the big announcement by BCCI for equal pay made every woman cricket lover happy. Various Bollywood celebrities hailed this decision of equal pay. Bollywood King Khan also lauded this decision. Shah Rukh, who owns multiple cricket teams including the IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders, is a known cricket fan praised the decision.
Shah Rukh Khan took to Twitter and shared Jay Shah’s original announcement, writing, “What a good front foot shot. Sports being such an equaliser ( in more ways than one ) hoping it will pave the way for others to follow.”
Speaking of Jay Shah tweet, Jay Shah tweeted that the board is taking steps to tackle discrimination and made this historic announcement, "I’m pleased to announce @BCCI’s first step towards tackling discrimination. We are implementing pay equity policy for our contracted @BCCIWomen cricketers. The match fee for both Men and Women Cricketers will be same as we move into a new era of gender equality in Indian Cricket," read the tweet from Jay Shah.
He further added, "The @BCCIWomen cricketers will be paid the same match fee as their male counterparts. Test (INR 15 lakhs), ODI (INR 6 lakhs), T20I (INR 3 lakhs). Pay equity was my commitment to our women cricketers and I thank the Apex Council for their support. Jai Hind."
The popularity of India’s women's team is increasing as a result of their terrific performance. The Indian women's team recently won the Asia Cup in Bangladesh, beating Sri Lanka in the final at Sylhet by 8 wickets. They also won India's first-ever medal in cricket at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham earlier this year. The Harmanpreet Kaur-led side lost to Australia in the final and got silver.
